Maths
On starting at VTC independent school our students will complete a baseline assessment which allows subject teachers to plan for their individual needs.

At VTC Independent School we care about improving the learning experience for our students who may have found Maths a challenge in the past. We design Maths lessons to be taught in mixed abilities groups and plan lively and engaging activities to improve the learners’ problem-solving and reasoning skills in readiness for challenges in the future.

All students study a wide range of mathematical disciplines. We cover:
· Whole Numbers
· Calculations
· Fractions, Decimals, Percentages and Ratio
· Measure
· Shape
· Handling Information and Data
· Statistics

Students cover each discipline at a level designed to their prior knowledge. Students then make links between the disciplines and apply the skills taught in a variety of problem-solving activities, which are designed to help them with everyday scenarios and look at a career path that involves Maths.
By the end of Key Stage 4 our students will leave with a Pearson’s Entry level 3, level 1, or Level 2 qualification in Maths Functional Skills, which will help them gain access to further education.
